Divided BAA suspends Dube

Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has suspended its spokesperson, Glody Dube indefinitely for bringing the organisation's name into disrepute.

The association made the decision during an executive committee meeting in Gaborone on Tuesday. The outspoken Dube has been sidelined after he made scathing attacks on BAA president, Moses Bantsi and development officer, Bobby Gaseitsiwe. The former athlete accused the duo of running the association as a fiefdom.

Dube's comments came after Botswana's poor performance at the Africa Junior Athletics Championships (AJAC), which were hosted in Gaborone early this month. After the competition, Dube fired salvos at Bantsi and Gaseitsiwe saying that they spent their time with the AJAC Local Organising Committee (LOC) and neglected the team. He has dismissed his suspension on the grounds that it is un-procedural. "As far as I am concerned I am still the BAA spokesperson," he said and questioned the committee's powers to suspend him.
