Shell Oil Botswana, the new softball league sponsor, has told the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) to put its house in order or risk losing the company's support.

Shell chairman, Boitumelo Sekwababe issued the warning during the unveiling of a new P300,000 sponsorship deal in Gaborone on Tuesday. He said the injection is a sponsorship deal and not a donation.

Sekwababe did not mince his words and said softball faced a slow death. He challenged the game's administrator to restore its glory days. Sekwababe said the deal came with expectations that must be fulfilled. "(Remember), this is a sponsorship, not a donation," he said. The expectation is that the BSA president, Marumo Morule should win the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) Administrator of the Year award in 2012. To ensure that there are positive developments within the game, Sekwababe said he would regularly meet with the administrators to ensure that agreements are honoured.  He said BSA officials should not use the absence of a sponsor in the past, as an excuse. Sekwababe said the cash injection should help rebuild softball. Sekwababe, a former softball player said there should be innovations to revive the sport. "You have a rich history of being one of the best performing sporting codes locally and regionally. We need to think about what we can do to bring back glory days to softball," he said.  He expressed concern that the softball pitch, the National Diamond has remained largely neglected since much has changed from the days he was a player.  For his part Morule promised that they would do everything in their power to live up to the sponsor's expectations.
