The national tennis team just arrived home from the Davis Cup Group III-Africa tournament in Egypt where they finished 10th out of 13 countries.

The team that comprised Phenyo Matong, Aobakwe Letang, Shingirai Mozondiwa and Innocent Tidimane won two of their four games. Botswana was in Group D with powerhouses Egypt, Nigeria and Zambia. Despite finishing 10th coach Peter Mphele believes the team has done well especially that the country had not sent a team in the last two years. They lost 3-0 and 2-1 against Egypt and Nigeria respectively before beating Zambia 3-0. They went on to beat Kenya in the position 9-13 play-offs.

Mphele said the team needed to have left earlier to acclimatise on the clay courts that were used in the competition. He said the players showed confidence but were unfortunate to ba paired against tough teams. He added that they have picked vital lessons in the competition that would help them going forward. He said it is important that players train together for a long time before taking part in such competitions.
