The first edition of the Botswana national games will be held from December 10 to 15 in Gaborone, the organisers announced at the launch yesterday. The games will be held at the UB Stadium and the National Stadium. Chairperson of the organising committee, Dabilani Buthali said that all the 16 district councils have confirmed their participation in the event.

He said the games will be used as a feeding programme for next year's Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI event. That is why codes not included in the SCSA event have been excluded from the Botswana games.

Buthali revealed that at the moment, almost all the districts are in training camps for the games. "All the teams from the districts are expected to have arrived in Gaborone on Sunday. The first group is expected to arrive on Saturday (tomorrow)," he said. The programme of the games starts on Sunday with a welcome reception for all the team officials and coordinators at Boipuso Hall. Buthali disclosed that the dream to host the games has become a reality because of support from the local authorities.
