Date set for BAA elections

Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) has stepped in to set a date for the elections of the troubled Botswana Athletics Association (BAA).

The athletics body has been ordered to hold elections on March 29 to replace its dissolved committee.  The BAA plunged into crisis recently when a number of officials resigned to trigger the dissolution of the entire executive committee as per regulations. Only three members, the president  Thari Mooketsi, his vice Glody Dube and spokesperson Ipolokeng Ramatshaba remained in office. After the resignations, the three were supposed to vacate office immediately but hung on for sometime until the committee was dissolved.  The recent resignations followed that of Legojane Kebaitse in December. They came after a heated Annual General Meeting (AGM) where executive committee members exchanged harsh words in front of affiliates.  This week, BNSC informed BAA affiliates to nominate candidates for the eight vacant positions. This is not the first time that BNSC had to intervene in BAA matters.
