The national darts team leaves tomorrow for the annual Zone VI championships in Windhoek, Namibia which kicks-off on Monday.

The team has 14 players (eight men and six women). Botswana Darts Association (BODA) spokesperson, Peter Sekgwama said that preparations for the tournament have been running smoothly. "We even organised a friendly match with BDF Select and we managed to beat them 24-12. We are playing them again today and we expect them to bring a more reinforced team," he said.

He added that the team has been in camp at the Athletes' Village in Block Nine in Gaborone since Monday. The players start their daily training at 8am and finish at 4pm with a lunch-break in between. Sekgwama expects Botswana to do well at the tournament this year. He said the team selection was good as there are some new faces.
Sekgwama appealed to parents to release their children whenever they are needed. He stated that BODA bears full responsibility of taking care of the children. "We want them to understand that we will take care of their children even when we travel outside the country. Last year, we travelled with young players to Johannesburg and we took care of them," he added. He emphasised the need for people to understand darts. He said that some people still see darts as a game associated with alcohol but this is not true. "This is a game like any other game and people should not discourage children from playing darts," he said.
