JWANENG: The annual Spring Cycle race was nearly spoiled on Saturday when the winner of the 100km event, Jan Strydom hit the police escort car on the back at the finishing point.

Fortunately, he did not suffer any serious injuries and he attended the prize-giving ceremony hours later.

A fuming Strydom told Monitor Sport that he is disappointed by the lack of professionalism shown by the police on the day. "I was running at about 75km per hour and I saw the police car making a u-turn in front of me. I tried to avoid it but hit it at the back and what makes me angry is that the driver never stopped to see whether Iwas fine or not. They are supposed to be protecting us and if they behave like this, then I do not know what is going on," he said.
