Cricket team plan Sri Lanka camp for World Cup qualifiers

The national cricket team leaves on August 19 for a five-day camp in Sri Lanka to prepare for the Division Five World Cup qualifying games scheduled for Singapore.

The team will play three warm up matches against the Sri Lanka Cricket Board Academy ahead of the qualifiers, which start on August 29 and end on September 5. Team manager, Fazal Sheriff said the Singapore tournament offer Botswana an opportunity to qualify for Division Four. "The team has been preparing fairly well. It has played a couple of games, and as our league is still on, the league matches have been keeping players active," he said. Sheriff is optimistic the team will do well judging by the determination in the camp.

"The boys are keen and hungry for success and I think they will do well," he added. The only concern is the humid climate in Asia, which might work against Botswana. "We have been in winter here, and there is no winter in Singapore, the weather is always humid and temperatures can be very high and that is why we are leaving early for the team to acclimatise to the humid conditions," he said. The final team will be announced shortly.
