The Zebras and the rest of southern Africa have suffered a drawback after the COSAFA Senior Challenge was postponed.

The tournament, which has not been held since 2009, would have assisted teams in the region as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers due to be held later this year and early 2013. A media release from the Botswana Football Association (BFA) said the COSAFA tournament has been postponed until next year. It is reported that the competition has a new sponsor but the new financier requested that the event be rescheduled to next year to allow enough time for successful promotion of the tournament.

The BFA has said it would work around the clock to find suitable teams to play the Zebras as the team prepares to play the AFCON qualifiers scheduled for September. "In the meantime, the BFA is working around the clock to get renowned teams to play some international friendly games with Zebras to prepare it for the upcoming AFCON 2013 qualifiers scheduled for September 7 to 11 2012," reads the statement.  Zimbabwe hosted the last edition of the Senior Challenge which is battling to attract sponsors while Metropolitan announced last year that it was pulling out from backing the COSAFA Under-20 competition.
