Comets, Wonder hearing scheduled for Sunday

The First Division South League Committee will convene on Sunday to continue with the hearing of a case in which Jwaneng Comets is protesting that the league champions, Wonder Sporting, used defaulters in some of their games.

The case was heard earlier this month.  However, it could not resume this week because Jwaneng Comets have bereavement. One of their players, Marvin Kaelo, died in a car accident over the weekend. In the past the case was delayed because the committee could not form a quorum. This was after some officials from both Wonder Sporting and Comets, who are serving on the league committee, rescued themselves to avoid conflict of interest.  To compound matters, another official of the league committee had resigned.

Comets has protested that Wonder Sporting has been using foreign players; Clarkson Dzimbiri, Farasai Nyamunamwendo and Mkhululi Moyo without proper work permits.  The Jwaneng side claims that the Botswana Police-sponsored side was using the work permits that were acquired when the trio were still playing for Police XI.The three players joined Wonder Sporting after Police XI was deregistered from the Botswana Football Association (BFA).But a Wonder Sporting official said it was untrue that the three players were defaulters.  He said they did not field the foreign players for many months because they were waiting for their work permits.  "They only started to play this year since we were waiting for their work permits," said the official. He said two of the players were issued with the work permits in December while the third player got the permit in January.
