Comets set to dodge the axe?

Come the end of the weekend, the Jwaneng football community, especially people closer to Comets, will know whether their team remains in the Mascom Premier League or go for the Promotional Play-Offs in a bid to save its status.

This must be sad news for the Jwaneng community because Comets only returned to the Premier League this season. Magakabe who are currently sitting in a precarious (14th) position in the Premier League, face unpredictable Notwane at the Galaxy Stadium on Saturday. While Notwane can afford to lose, Comets badly need maximum points and will be hoping that Lobtrans Gunners stumble against Township Rollers at the National Stadium. If Comets win and Gunners lose by three goals, there is every possibility that the Lobatse arsenal would be doomed to the play-offs.
Judging by their performance in the 1-0 win over Rollers a fortnight ago, there is a probability that Comets can surprise their weekend opponents.
Already there is talk in football circles that Notwane have nothing to lose as they have cemented their place in the top eight bracket.  But having lost 2-1 to relegated Prisons XI in Lobatse last Saturday, Toronto would go into the game looking for nothing else but maximum points.
In an interview yesterday, Comets coach Boyo Radipotsane said that they were busy preparing for their meeting with Notwane and would do anything to bag the three points. Its important that we win this game. If we cant beat Notwane, then well go for the promotional play-offs and get back to the Premier League. Honestly, we didnt start the season well and if we survive, well have to sit down to put the team together, Radipotsane told Mmegi Sport.
The home side will once again be banking on the services of Omphile Madala, Bobo Motlhalane, Boemo Willie and Super Kelaotswe.
In their past game against Rollers, Motlhalane was outstanding and won everything in the middle of the park. If he remains focused and not pick a red card over a silly mistake like in their 3-2 loss to Gaborone United, Motlhalane might be what the doctor has ordered for the hosts to survive the axe. Upfront, Notwane defence will be kept busy by Ringo Rankgomo and Jomo Bolofete. Though underrated, Rankgomo has scored some crucial goals for Comets this season.
Notwanes spokesperson Podi Mooki has dismissed allegations that they might give away their game against Comets. He told Mmegi Sport that they desperately need the points to end the season in a respectable position. Mooki pointed that their recent performances have been disappointing and they would go flat out to end the season on a high note.
Well use this game to prepare for the Kabelano Charity Cup, hence its important for us to win, he told Mmegi Sport. Notwane, Rollers, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Gaborone United will take part in this years charity cup, which will be launched tomorrow at the Gaborone Sun. Toronto will once again rely on the goal-scoring exploits of Tshepiso Sox Molwantwa. The former Zebras marksman has netted 21 goals so far this season and might win the Golden boot at the Premier League awards next month. Notwane midfielder Keoagetse Barnes Radipotsane makes a return from international duty.
