Coach officiates match as referees boycott

FRANCISTOWN: TAFIC mentor, Dominic Changwe came in to rescue the situation to officiate in a first division match between TASC and Two Two Five at Francistown stadium after referees failed to turn up for the game.

The dull encounter ended in a 1-1 all draw. Clad in a black guess jean and a TAFIC jersey the youthful looking Changwe was assisted by the two unknown man picked from the stands. The fourth official in was former Francistown Region Football Association (FRAFA) secretary general Neo Gabalatse.

The decision to appoint the four individuals to officiate the match was taken after the referees failed to pitch for the encounter. Although mystery still surround the non-arrival of match officials at the match, sources within the two clubs said that referees are not happy with the way first division teams remunerate them. Sometimes the officials are reportedly not paid at all while in most instances they get their dues late. These are the reasons the referees do not pitch for matches according to sources within the two teams. It was TASC who started the match like a house on fire. The host displayed a greater level of creativity and velour in the middle of the park. Two Two Five on the other hand lacked creativity in the first stanza. The players also lacked match fitness perhaps as result of the long Christmas break.
