The two-day preliminary stage of the Oseg-AP Mokoto Softball Diamond Classic came to an end on Sunday with six men and six women teams qualifying for the finals scheduled for March 7-8.

The men clubs that made it through are defending champions BDF IX, Wells, Paper Club, Scramblers, Rail Giants and Carats. In the women's competition, holders Wells, Bears, BDF IX, Carats, Scramblers and Police IX will do battle in the final. They join Vikings men and women clubs who qualify by virtue of being hosts and two South African sides invited for the tournament.

Nine men and seven women clubs took part in the Southern qualifiers while in the North only four men and two women clubs participated. The tournament is organised by Vikings with the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) running the first leg. The BSA president, Marumo Morule was delighted that the first leg went according to plan. The level of competition particularly impressed him. He said because the year has just begun, they expected the players to be rusty but that was not the case.
