Club withdraws after players' exodus

FRANCISTOWN: A Selebi-Phikwe regional football club has withdrawn from the league after losing players to the constituency tournaments.

A Division Two side, Mokobi Young Stars from Sefhope, withdrew after almost the entire squad left to join the constituency tournaments, which are the brainchild of President Ian Khama.

Selebi-Phikwe football region chairperson, Tebro Onkabetse confirmed the development in an interview. "It is true that the said club has written to us informing us that they have decided to withdraw from the league as they have lost almost the entire squad to the constituency tournaments  and had only four players remaining in the team," he said. He revealed that the team started the league well ,but gradually faded after failing to honour some of their games including home games without any convincing reason. Onkabetse said Mokobi had indicated that it might return next season if they managed to secure players. He said teams, which won games against Mokobi will lose those points.
