Club blames player's death on lack of sponsorship

The 22-year-old holding midfielder's name had been withheld pending police investigations and notification of next of kin.The incident, which claimed the 22-year- old's life, happened in Dikabeya village near Palapye.Lehoko was a passenger in a Toyota corolla sedan that overturned after a tyre burst. He was with four other players including the driver. The four men escaped with minor injuries. They were travelling to Francistown for their league clash against Amakhosi FC.

The player is the nephew to the owner and coach of the club Onthusitse Kootswele.Meanwhile, in an interview yesterday, Kootswele said that Lehoko's death highlighted the potential danger of playing in the First Division. He blamed the Botswana Football Association's (BFA) failure to secure sponsorship for clubs on time for the death of the player."We do not have sponsorship in the First Division. For this reason we are forced to source resource such as cars from well-wishers. "Some of these cars we borrow are not in a good condition, but it's hard to determine because we do not have enough money to send them for assessment before we travel as result of lack of sponsorship.
