Churches organise football tournament

A 12-team football tournament that will pit local churches against each other will kick off on Saturday.

The event, which was launched in Gaborone last week, is the brainchild of Open Baptist Church (OBC) and will run over eight weeks.Participating teams include veteran coach Barry Daka's Rhema Gospel Light Ministries, OBC Maru-a-Pula and G-west branches, Spirit Winners, Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Tlokweng, Mochudi and Gaborone branches. Zion Christian Church (ZCC), Bread of Life, Prevailing Christian Ministries and Holy Ghost House will also compete.

Speaking at the launch, former Botswana Football Association (BFA) vice-president technical, Segolame Ramotlhwa, challenged the organisers to continually run the league using sound principles."It's the first of its kind and it's exciting to see the church organising itself to play a role in sport. If you can develop young sport's personalities from within the confines of the church you would have done a great job," Ramotlhwa added.
