Chiefs count losses

Mochudi Centre Chiefs' captain Noah 'Stooge' Kareng has said that they only have themselves to blame for throwing away the league title. He was speaking after Chiefs suffered their second consecutive defeat at the hands of Gaborone United on Tuesday afternoon. The two defeats put paid to Magosi's title ambitions.

Though Chiefs had a brilliant start to the campaign, they faltered early this year when they lost to ECCO City (twice) and unexpectedly fell to struggling Jwaneng Comets. The three defeats marked the beginning of the end for Magosi with indications that it was always going to be difficult to close the gap on title favourites ECCO City Greens.

Speaking to Mmegi Sport Kareng said they are to blame for surrendering the title. "There was a lot of pressure on us and we couldn't stand it. The other thing which worked against us is that at times, our attitude was not right." Kareng said the involvement of their players in the national Under-23 side cost them dearly. "Though many people would think this is an excuse, it cost us dearly. We had to stay for sometime without playing while our competitors were playing. This broke our rhythm altogether and to make matters worse, some players came with injuries from the national team camps," he said.
