Cheetahs, EMG Gunners ready for bruising battle

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The two army sides, Eastern Military Garrison (EMG) Gunners and Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Cheetahs will this weekend face off in a Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) league match at Selebi-Phikwe stadium.

The match is expected to be exciting with Cheetahs coming into the match with a psychological advantage following their unbeaten record while Gunners will be pushing to remain in the top four.Cheetahs are currently in pole position while Gunners are at position three. Gunners' spokesperson, Modesto Madzambe told Mmegi Sport that they were ready for the game despite a long recess. He admitted that players' fitness is a big concern. The BRU league has been on a break because of the Vultures' involvement in last month's World Cup qualifiers held in Senegal.  Madzambe stated that Cheetahs were fortunate because they had many players in the national team and they also participated in the army competitions that were held in South Africa, which meant their players were fit.

"But we have only one player in the national team. Our coach will be absent from this match, but we cannot let that derail us.  "We will fight with everything that we have to get a win from the encounter. We have been working hard to strengthen our backline that has been giving us problems in our last matches," said Madzambe. He stated that Gunners have two players for each position and that means there is competition to be in the starting line-up.
