Chaos: two premier league games called off

Two be MOBILE Premier League matches had to be cancelled on Saturday following a fixture mix-up that caused chaos at UB Stadium. Township Rollers were supposed to play Francistown side, TAFIC while log leaders, Mochudi Centre Chiefs were scheduled to meet Nico United.

There was confusion regarding the venue for the games as three teams; Rollers, Chiefs and TAFIC  ended up going to UB Stadium. Nico on the other hand were in Mogoditshane waiting for Chiefs at the SSKB Stadium. Chiefs, Rollers and TAFIC supporters also flocked to UB Stadium as confusion continued to reign as to which teams were supposed to play at the venue.

The confusion is said to have emanated from the fixtures that were released last week, stating that Chiefs were supposed to play Nico at SSKB Stadium, while Rollers were to take on TAFIC at UB Stadium. The fixtures contravened those endorsed by the Premier League board at their meeting held on May 1. According to Botswana Premier League chief executive officer (CEO), Bennett Mamelodi, fixtures for the rest of the season, that took into consideration dates for the national team as well as the Botswana Football Association (BFA) general assembly, were an the agenda of the Premier League board meeting held on Labour Day and were discussed at in detail.The board, after lengthy discussions, endorsed the schedule.
