Changes make BDF VI coach unhappy

MAHALAPYE: BDF VI men volleyball coach Selebatso Mabutho is not impressed by the indecision over the format of play for the quarterfinals of the BMW Capital Motors tournament.

Mabutho said the format was changed twice and this caused a lot of confusion for the teams. He was speaking after his side qualified for the final to be played on September 27. Initially, the clubs that finished first at the group stage were seeded and drawn against the runners-up for the quarterfinals. But sometimes last week, Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) announced that the format has been changed. BVF said there would be no seeding and they will use the wild card method to decide the draw for the semi-final. But there was another twist on Saturday when the organisers reverted to the seeding system. Mabutho alleged that the format was changed because organisers wanted to favour some clubs.

BVF vice president in charge of technical matters, Waboraro Mokgatla said they had to change the format because clubs were not happy. He pointed out that the federation was supposed to inform the clubs about the changes seven days before the games but this did not happen. Mokgatla said all the changes were done in good faith and the quarterfinals took place without incident.
