Can the Khama magic work wonders?

It is no secret that the Zebras will need a touch of magic to qualify for the 2013 AFCON finals to be hosted in neighbouring South Africa.

The team faces a daunting task of overcoming a 3-0 deficit against Mali when the two clash in the second leg of the qualifiers next Saturday. Perhaps President Ian Khama felt a need to provide that magic when he paid a visit to the BFA's Lekidi Football Centre yesterday afternoon.  Khama made a donation of 5,000 national flags to the Zebras supporters' club members to use when rallying behind the team when they play Mali in the do-or-die encounter at Lobatse Stadium.

Khama, who is also the patron of the BFA, emphasised the importance of supporters in sport performance and urged Zebras supporters to come in large numbers to give the team the necessary support. "I appeal to all Batswana to waive their flags high and offer the team support when we play Mali on the 13th," he said. He said home ground advantage had always proved to be a contributing factor to performance and the Zebras can equally benefit from playing at home and display their best performance, but this would be complemented by the supporters presence.
