After an agonising 17-year search for silverware, Lobatse soccer powerhouse, Extension Gunners, finally brought smiles to their success-starved fans with last Saturday's Coca-Cola Cup victory. "It has been years of frustration but we remained patient, knowing that this day would eventually come." This is not a quote from one of the family members of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States, but words from a relieved Gunners' supporter on Saturday. He was speaking on a day before the  10-year hunt for Al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden ended. Gunners had just ended a 17-year trophy drought in spectacular fashion the previous day, clobbering Palapye side, Motlakase Power Dynamos 3-1.

Despite the 17-year trophy drought, Gunners have been one of the big guns in local football, thanks to the impressive ride in the sun in three years of ecstasy between 1992, 1993 and 1994 when the team won successive league titles. The three successful years were followed by 17 years of drought and misery.
