Botswana Premier League (BPL) have confirmed that league sponsors, Botswana Telecommunication Corporation (BTC) have released grants to teams ahead of the start of the new season on Friday.

The revelation follows recent concerns over the readiness of both the BPL and clubs to start the league this weekend. While there were fears that the start of the season could be postponed again because of several pending issues including outstanding grants, the BPL have since quelled fears and stated they are ready to start.

“The grants have been released by the sponsors as well as administration fees for the BPL. We are ready to start,” acting BPL chief executive officer, Thabo Ntshinogang told journalists yesterday. He also said the issue surrounding the payment of referees has also been resolved amicably between the BPL and the whistle men. This follows concerns on whether the referees would be able to officiate because of unpaid dues from last season.
