The Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) is waiting for the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) verdict on whether Under-14 player, Emelda Shadreck, would participate in the Africa Junior Championships to be held in Cairo, Egypt in April.

The tournament is scheduled for April 3 to 14 with participants from across the continent expected to battle it out in two age groups, Under-16 and Under-14 for both boys and girls. The zonal competition held in Namibia last month was used as a qualifier for the continental junior showpiece.

BTA had initially thought that Shadreck and her Under-16 counterpart Nthabiseng Mogopodi had qualified based on their zonal competition results in Namibia last month. However, it appears there was a tie between Shadreck and a Mauritian girl, who also competed in the Under-14 category, and the ITF will now have to make a decision on who goes through to Cairo.BTA public relations officer, Nelson Amanze confirmed the setback. He said an ITF development officer had communicated the issue to him via e-mail.
