BTA hosts ITF juniors again

Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) is excited after it was once again given the opportunity to host the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Confederation of African Tennis (AFC) African Junior Championships for the second time in a row.

The tournament for the Under-18 attracts at least 29 countries. This is the second time the country hosts the event consecutively. It is the fifth time the competition is held in southern Africa. BTA sports development officer Tuelo Serufho  told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they are eagerly awaiting the competition. The two-week event is played in three stages. It will be held from March 18-30 at the tennis courts in Gaborone and the nearby University of Botswana (UB). The first week is dedicated to champions of Botswana, a tournament open to all countries worldwide, while the second week will be strictly for Africans. On the last day, the top four African countries will do battle and the winners will represent the continent in the Junior Davis Cup.

"We are very happy to have been given this opportunity again and this means a lot to us as BTA," said a happy Serufho. The youthful sports development officer expressed confidence that preparations are progressing well despite the fact that the tennis courts need some minor repairs.
