BRU plans to exploit Springboks

The Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) plans to exploit South Africa's impressive outing at the ongoing World Cup in France. BRU secretary, Oupa Pandor and vice-president Bob Lekan said yesterday that Botswana can learn a lot from the Springbok's performance in France.

Pandor said that after the World Cup they will sit down and map out how they can benefit from the Springbok's performance in France. "Since rugby is becoming popular in the country, we need to look at the combinations they use and the styles of coaching."
Lekan said that Botswana can benefit from South Africa in terms of organisation. "We should take advantage of the fact that they are so near to us. Whether the assistance will be in terms of training, our coaches or any other technical assistance, we should go for it," he said.

The two BRU officials have said that the Springboks are favourites to reach the World Cup final. Springboks have made an impressive start to the tournament and their 36-0 humiliation of defending champions, England on Friday night set alarm bells. Lekan said that the way South Africa has played so far is an indication of how they will progress in the event. "I also think South Africa, New Zealand and Australia will be the favourites to win this cup. The performances of these three teams has been impressive even prior to the World Cup," he said. He added that Argentina, who have also been impressive might qualify for the finals though he does not see them winning the cup.
