TLOKWENG: The Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) is in the process of coming up with a finance procedure manual for improved financial management.

The union treasurer Vincent Mashaya said this at the Ordinary General Meeting on Saturday after presenting the financial report to them. Affiliates had pointed out that there was a need for proper financial management of the union. Although they did not have any specific query about the handling of the finances, affiliates felt there was still room for improvement. They suggested that a full time officer be employed to look after the day-to-day running of finances and report to the executive committee. Affiliates also requested the committee to always attach a detailed breakdown of the financial report in appreciation of people who did not have financial background. Affiliates eventually adopted the financial report.

On other news, Mashaya told affiliates that unlike in the past where the International Rugby Union (IRB) gave member countries grants in advance it will now be split on a quarterly basis.  The OGM also looked at the draft of the revised constitution for more interrogation. After picking up a number of lines that needed to be corrected the meeting appointed a three-member committee to work on incorporating the correction in the document. The committee has up to the end of August to complete the document.Addressing affiliates, BRU president Bob Lekan expressed concern at the declining participation of top players and lauded a sharp increase in participation of young players.
