BRU blames referees for Vulture failure

A Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) official has blamed referees for thefailure of the national rugby side, the Vultures, to win the Castle Sevens tournament in Lusaka Zambia. Andrew Paxinos said they could have easily wonthe tournament had it not been for the two losses they suffered in matches officiated by Zambian referees.

He said Zambian referees were assigned to handle games involving their own teams and this made them biased. "Our level of play is higher than that of the Zambian teams we played. We dominated the whole tournament and we could have easily beaten them but because there was unfair refereeing, our boys were discouraged.

Coaches that had seen us play last year were even surprised to see a muchimproved
Botswana side because most of them had underestimated us," he said.
