Bridge players leave for SA tournament

The Botswana Bridge Federation will tomorrow (Wednesday) send a team of eight athletes to South Africa to compete in the November 10-13 Knysna Teams Tournament.

Organized by the South African Bridge Federation (SABF), the tournament will bring together 26 strong teams from South Africa with Botswana being the only team invited from outside. A total of 200 boards will be played within the four days of the tournament that is part of SABF efforts to promote the card game in the country.  Speaking to Mmegi Sport, BBF spokesperson, Tshepiso Ramaribana said they are honoured to receive the invitation as it shows that Botswana have some of the best players in the region, evidenced by invitations they receive for top tournaments every year. Ramaribana said although they could not send their best teams due to school and work commitments, she believed all the players in the team are good and will come back with good results.

The team was selected on Saturday at an Open Teams Tournament at the University of Botswana (UB) that was sponsored by Gaborone Container terminal (GABCON) to the tune of P10, 000. Ramaribana hailed the tournament a success saying the level of play was good and young players competing in the youth category were impressive.
