Boxing elections over the weekend

Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) affiliates vote this Saturday to elect a new executive committee to replace the old officials who quit en masse last month. BoBA holds the elections in a Special General Meeting (SGM) called by the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC).

BNSC spokesperson Chris Nkwe said that after exploring all the alternatives, they settled for a SGM. He explained that BNSC will facilitate the elections and it is up to affiliates to vote the people they want. He explained that though there is no committee at BoBA, the day-to-day running of the association has not been affected. Boxing development officer, Healer Modiradilo has been running BoBA in the interim. Nkwe said a boxing tournament was recently cancelled because there was no one to facilitate it.    The BoBA committee members resigned en masse following a successful motion of no confidence against three officials. The three were accused of giving boxer, Mmoloki Nogeng a waiver to take part in the Keone Mooka Mageu championships last year though he did not qualify. It was said Nogeng got favourable treatment because the officials are associated with his club BDVC.

However, the affiliates got a slap on the face when the whole committee announced it was stepping down in solidarity with the trio. The committee contended that since the three took the decision on behalf of the association, it means they were all guilty if there was any offence in giving Nogeng the waiver.
