National boxing team coach Johannes Ditlhabang has attributed the failure of three Botswana boxers to qualify for the Olympic Games last month to controversial umpiring.

Four Botswana boxers travelled to Algeria to take part in the African Olympic Games qualifiers but only Khumiso Ikgopoleng made it through to the Beijing event.

But all is not lost for those who failed in Algeria, as they will have another chance at the second African Olympic Games qualifiers to be held in Namibia next month. The four-man team arrived from Algeria last Sunday. Ikgopoleng qualified after he beat his opponent from South Africa Joseph Mhlongo in the 54kg category. The Botswana boxer would be going to the Olympics for the second time. Thato Batshegi (57kg), Gaolatlhe Mpotsang (60kg) and Herbert Nkabiti (64kg) were knocked out at preliminary stages in Algeria.
