Botswana's medal hopes go up in smoke

Botswana's medal hopes at the World Boxing Championships in Milan Italy went up in smoke on Monday when Bathusi Mogajane crashed out in the quarterfinals.

Mogajane became the first Motswana boxer to qualify for the quarterfinals at the world boxing event after he beat Lony Pierre of Haiti 13-2 on Saturday only to fall 13-7 to Kukasz Maszczyk of Poland in the 48kg bout.

Other Botswana boxers, Mmoloki Nogeng and Jonas Moeti were knocked out in the preliminary stages as Mogajane soldiered on in a bid to grab a first ever medal for Botswana in the World Boxing Championships. Nogeng and Moeti fared badly and were saved by referees from the pummelling they received from their opponents.
