Botswana to meet Singapore in world opener

Botswana will open the July 2011 World Netball Championships with a tough match against the hosts, Singapore, on July 3, according to the match schedule released on Friday.

The 13th World Netball Championships will be held in Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium between July 3-10.  The opening game of the world championships however is seen as the battle of the minnows by pundits as both teams are separated by just a point in the world rankings. Botswana is ranked 20th and Singapore 19th.

The top 16 netball nations in the world will converge on Singapore for this key event. However,  Australia, the defending champions, New Zealand, the last runners- up in 2007 and the current  Commonwealth champions, along with Jamaica, England and South Africa are the strong contenders for this year's title.
