Botswana will host the 2018 edition of the COSAFA Challenge, outgoing Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego revealed at the annual general assembly (AGA) held on Saturday.

“We have been in contact with COSAFA and they reminded us that the 2018 tournament will be held in Botswana. We have since started our preparations and engagements with the government are on going,” Sebego said. He further said the BFA could have hosted the tournament earlier, but had to meet some of the objectives. Meanwhile, Sebego said the BFA is worried about the poor performance of the national teams. In the last season, all the national teams (women and men) were taking part in the various competitions but neither managed to qualify for a major tournament. “Our national teams continue to lose in the first attempt of the qualifications. This is due to inadequate preparations; we intend to help in any possible away to stop this growing trend.”

“There is need for adequate staff at the BFA secretariat. The BFA should appoint positions that will improve the image of the association. We have proposed a new management structure, that will take our football to the next level,” he said. He further said there is a need for a full time legal officer as it is in line with the new constitution.
