The Botswana Under-19 team finished ninth at the World Junior Men’s Championship held in Michigan, United States of America (USA) recently, and secured a shield as the champions of the placement bracket.

Botswana was put in the placement bracket and played against two teams, South Africa and Israel. Botswana beat South Africa 9-4 before losing 3-0 to Israel. At the team’s welcome ceremony yesterday, the team’s captain, Tumisang Moakofi said the hot climatic conditions affected their play and as a result struggled to adapt. Moakofi said the first match against Denmark was not difficult because all players were fit.

“We have realised that all countries at the competition believed in spinning the ball than speed. That made it difficult for us to track the ball and hitting was a headache,” he said.
