Botswana needs pro-boxing body, WBF president

Visiting World Boxing Federation (WBF) president, Howard Goldberg, says Botswana should consider establishing a professional boxing control board to reduce over reliance on neighbouring South Africa.

Goldberg, who is on a two-day official visit at the invitation of Scud Missile Promotions said Botswana has a fantastic future in professional boxing, but many of its boxers would never realise their full potential if they continued to be sanctioned by a foreign body.

"You cannot continue looking at South Africa because they have to serve their own boxers before they can turn to you, that is why it takes a very long time for Botswana boxers to get title bouts even if they are good," Goldberg said.
