Botswana has been selected to host the revamped African Athletics Championships (AAC) Permit Meet on May 5 in Gaborone. Unlike the last two editions, this year's AAC will be held in one country. The event will attract participants from Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi.

Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) technical officer Bobby Gaseitsiwe says they have been given $30,000 or P180,000 by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) to host the event. He explained that the bulk of the money would go towards accommodating and feeding teams and prizes.

"It is a prize money event but we are yet to put in place a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to look into the prize break down," he said. He added that the Grand Prix will feature seven events - the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 5,000m, long jump and high jump.
