Firstly, two Premier League sides failed to pay their subscription with the Gaborone City Regional Football Association and lost their affiliation. The issue did not only cause panic among supporters but confusion as well.Police XI and Security Systems together with other lower division sides lost their membership with the association.

Many thought the current leadership under Tebogo Sebego was too harsh in dealing with the matter. The issue saw Systems drag the association before the courts although they failed to succeed on two occasions. There are reports that some clubs, among them Mochudi Buffaloes, are contesting the elevation of BR Highlanders and Notwane into the Premier League. The two sides replaced Police XI and Security Systems.
