BOPSSA hosts inaugural awards� ceremony

Botswana Primary School Sports Association (BOPSSA) will host its inaugural gala dinner and awards ceremony on December 2. The theme of the event, ‘Rewarding Sports Excellence’ is meant to motivate athletes and officials.

BOPSSA spokesperson, Lawrence Moseki said awards are divided into six categories of best female, best male, promising athlete (both girls and boys), sports person of the year, best coach and the best technical official. Assistant Minister of Local Government, Botlogile Tshireletso will officiate at the event. Moseki believes the awards will boost the status of athletes and open doors for them. Tickets for the event cost P500.

The nominees have not been finalised yet and Moseki said they are having a hard time coming up with a shortlist because many athletes did well in the past year.  He would not reveal the kind of awards that they are going to give but said but said it is “something really big”. Ministries of Education and Skills Development (MOESD) and Local Government sponsor the event.
