BOKA hosts referees' course

The Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) will run a three-day national referees and table managers' course in Gaborone from Friday this week to Sunday. Course administrator Million Masumbika said they expect about 50 participants. The theory and practical course is part of BOKA's efforts to upgrade the skills of the existing referees and to train new ones.

Masumbika explained that this time round, they have extended the invitation to teachers because the knowledge they will gain will help in karate development in schools. He said karate playing rules and regulations were changed late last year hence it is important to keep referees updated with the new ones.

He added that it is equally important for schools to run their competitions according to international rules and standards. Masumbika said they have insufficient number of referees and this has affected competitions. He explained that though they always train officials, it is not easy to retain them as they are volunteers.
