BoBA pleased with development progress

The Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) sports development officer, Healer Modiradilo has said they are pleased with the progress they have made this year in grooming young talent.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Youth Development Training camp in Moshupa, Modiradilo said their main aim this year is to channel their resources to grooming young boxers. "It is important to teach them the basics of boxing and familiarise them with the rules of the game so that by the time they start competing, they are accustomed to these things," he explained.

He said BoBA has made strides in identification and development of young talent. He said this has been achieved through the Botswana Integrated Schools Association (BISA) competitions. "We worked with BISA and were able to identify some promising young boxers and we supported them so that they can develop," Modiradilo said. Apart from boxers, he said they managed to train BISA coaches. He added that currently schools have qualified coaches. He said 15 coaches got level four certificates this year while referees and judges have upgraded their skills through BoBA training workshops.
