The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) will announce today the list of 33 athletes that have made it to the finals of this year's BNSC/ Barloworld Sports Awards. The announcement will be made at a press conference at the National Stadium in Gaborone.

This year's awards - the eighth edition - on March 24 will be held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). The awards are sponsored by Barloworld Botswana and the BNSC and for the first time, journalists are involved in the selection of winners. In the past the BNSC relied on its affiliates to submit names for consideration for the awards. But this system had many problems the main ones being the delay by the affiliates in the forwarding of the names and biased selection by sports administrators.

Sometimes deserving sports personalities would be shunned leaving  the public surprised.
Kitso Kemoeng, the BNSC CEO, confirmed that the new system has yielded positive results. Already, there is a hefty list of candidates drawn from the 31 BNSC sports codes.
