BNSC Boss Warns Netball Officials

The chairperson of Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) Dorcas Makgato-Malesu has warned netball officials to clean-up their act or she will intervene to rescue the game from its current woes. She told the newly elected officials at the Botswana Netball Association (BONA) general assembly in Mahalapye that the way things are going she might be forced take over the running of the sport if nothing changes.

She lamented that netball is dying a slow death and drastic action is needed to rectify the situation. She said the excitement has gone out of the game amid poor motivation, lack of criteria for voting executive committee members and lack of funds. Makgato-Malesu said that currently, netball has no potential of attracting sponsorship. She advised BONA officials to stop looking for sponsors and focus on putting their house in order. She said she was disturbed by the language that netballers use at their games.

Control what you say at the matches, and say things that you will account for tomorrow," she said. She asserted that it is the netballers' attitude that hinders them from getting sponsors. "I do not see why you should not be bigger as an old sport. You have the potential but you need to sort yourselves out first," she offered.
