Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) has not secured a headline sponsor for the 33rd edition of its annual awards.

The council had been in talks with two companies but failed to reach a deal. But BNSC chief executive officer (CEO), Percy Raditladi has, however, said that would not prevent the council from hosting the event."We have a couple of sponsors who came in for prizes," he told Mmegi Sport yesterday. More companies are still expected to partner with the council. The awards are pencilled for June 8 at the Gaborone International Convention centre (GICC).

Meanwhile, preparations for the event are said to be going on well. Raditladi said nominees have been announced and that local companies have been appointed for dcor and production. "We have finalised contracts with some few local artists and we are also in the process of finalising an international artist," Raditladi added. Artists have also started rehearsals. Discussions with an international guest speaker are at an advanced stage and the council hopes to formally announce the speaker by the end of next week. Some of the changes in this year's event are the increase of tickets price to P1, 000 from P700. Raditladi said this was informed by the council's intention to focus more on the quality of the event. He was happy that tickets are selling like fat cakes and anticipated that they would be sold out by next week. "Unlike the year before we are focusing more on the quality of the event and as such we raised the cost of the tickets," he said.
