BNOC chairperson Negroes Kgosietsile said the membership has grown and that is why they need the commissions to lighten the workload. The Olympics Committee was established in 1979 and has more than 20 affiliates. Kgosietsile said the new commissions will be assigned duties to assist BNOC in their areas of specialisation. The commissions will have powers to represent BNOC at different forums. They will benchmark with relevant organizations locally and internationally. The term of office for commissioners will be four years. However, BNOC has the power to remove commissioners when it deems fit.
The commissioners serve as volunteers though BNOC intends to pay them sitting allowances in the near future. The commissions comprise people from different sports codes. There will be a commission for technical and development; sports science and sports medicine; education and culture; finance and marketing; women and sports; disciplinary, ethics and legal affairs; and sports for all. BNOC secretary general, Moses Moruise said though they are faced with problems this will not dampen their spirit of ensuring the growth of the Olympic movement.
