Blunders cost bears in softball duel

Blunders in defence cost Bears dearly yesterday when they fell 8-11 to second placed Blue Angeles in the Estate Construction men's softball league.

Bears started on the right footing against their more fancied opponents and looked set to win the game but failed to stop Angeles bats in the last innings. Bears did well in batting but was let down by poor calculations especially by outfield players. Before Angeles seized the initiative and extended their lead in the top five innings, the performance of the two teams was at par in a game that could have gone either way. But when the going got tough, it was experience that saved the army side. Though Angeles had their own fair share of blunders, they redeemed themselves in the last inning by registering three runs after Goga Daman broke an 8-8 deadlock. The player-coach made a home-run to give Angeles a 11-8 lead.

Daman said after the game that his team played according to plan. "The game was important to us to realise our dream of finishing second," he explained. He said his players outdid themselves because they wanted to prove a point as some of them were making their debut in the league. Daman hoped that his team would win the last game to finish second behind their army brothers BDF IX who were not playing over the weekend. BDF have played 19 games losing only once and gathering 36 points.
