Bitter end for Motlakase, TASC

The see-saw battle for survival in the be MOBILE Premier League finally reached an end over the weekend with two sides, TASC and Motlakase Power Dynamos, becoming the casualties and joining Black Peril in the lower division.

There are probably mixed reactions around Serowe and Palapye after the weekend action in which Motlakase dropped to the lower division while Miscellaneous survived. While the mood in Palapye is likely to be at its lowest in a long time, wild celebrations in the neighbouring Serowe will definitely be the order of the day. Motlakase and TASC's relegation meant that Miscellaneous survived and will have another dance in the Premier League following their debut season.

It was one of the most interesting relegation battles in a long time as all three bottom-placed sides faced the chop unlike in the previous seasons where a team that finished 14th went to the Promotional Play-offs. At some point in the second round, it looked like TASC had a better chance of survival than both Motlakase and Miscellaneous while Black Peril always looked like certain relegation candidates. Things took a slight change two weeks ago when Miscellaneous registered a surprise 4-1 victory over Uniao Flamengo Santos. At that stage, Miscellaneous were favoured to survive and their next assignment was an away fixture to Police XI. At the time when Miscellaneous thumped Santos, both Motlakase and TASC lost two valuable points. However, the Premier League table changed once again the following weekend when Motlakase paralysed TAFIC 3-0 while Miscellaneous lost to Police XI. The victory over TAFIC meant that the chance for survival was in Motlakase's hands. A victory in the last game would have saved them no matter what happened in the game between TASC and Miscellaneous in Orapa. However, Nico United were not in the mood to do anyone favours and handed them a 2-1 defeat. Miscellaneous, on the other hand, registered an all-important 1-0 victory over TASC.
