BGU sacks 'Big Fish'

In a shocking move, the Botswana Golf Union (BGU) has fired its executive secretary, Comfort 'Big Fish' Ramatebele saying his performance is below par.

The sack came despite the fact that Ramatebele has been credited with vastly improving the fortunes of BGU and golf ever since he joined the organisation in November last year. Ramatebele told Mmegi Sport yesterday that he received news about his sacking through a mobile phone message from one of his supervisors, Ben Tobedza, the BGU secretary general, on Friday. The message informed him to check his e-mail and when he did, he received the sack. He was asked to vacate the BGU premises by 5pm the same day. He has not spoken to BGU officials though he hopes to meet them soon. He conceded that he is shocked by his sacking since BGU officials have never questioned his performance. Ramatebele is disappointed by the fact that he has been fired through e-mail. But he thanked BGU for giving him an opportunity to work for golf.

He told Mmegi Sport that will think of his next move after the festive season. With the passion I have for sport, "I will always be serving sport, one way or another," he said. Ramatebele worked for the Botswana Football Association (BFA) where he left under controversial circumstances before he joined BGU. He did not rule out the possibility of joining the corporate world if the opportunity arises. Since joining BGU, he has given the organisation a high profile in the media.
