BFA welcomes revival of COSAFA Cup

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has welcomed the revival of the COSAFA Senior Challenge tournament, which went into oblivion due to lack of sponsorship.

This follows an agreement made by the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) member countries during the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lusaka, Zambian in December. It is at this general assembly that the member states agreed to revive the once popular regional tournament known for its nurturing  talent in the region.

Acting Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Tariq Babitseng who attended the general assembly, said the decision to revive the tournament is aimed at strengthening regional football.Babitseng said the rebirth of the COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup is a welcome development in terms of football growth in Botswana. He said the BFA needs as much practice as possible for the country's national soccer team, the Zebras. He said the COSAFA Cup helped The Zebras a lot as the national team was being kept busy.
