Botswana Football Association (BFA) president David Fani has said that it is unfortunate the government has not fulfilled its promise to pay allowances to players in the Premier League and the First Division.

He said the announcement by Sports Minister, Shaw Kgathi last week that the allowances cannot be paid due to budgetary constraints is a disappointment to clubs.
However, Fani said they understand the economic situation that has made the government not to pay the allowances.

He said instead of paying players, the BFA prefers to be given the money to improve its delivery. He said the failure by the government to deliver on its promises will be a blow to clubs.
